An Equine Photoshoot - What to Expect.

You may wonder what to expect for an equine photoshoot. Well, let me break it down for you so you can look forward to your horse photoshoot.

THE BASICS

My equine photoshoot lasts up to two hours. during this time we will work through a variety of different poses, these can be in hand and/or mounted (we will discuss this in advance) around your chosen location. After your shoot I will then edit your photographs which you be able to view online at a later date.

SO LET ME BREAK IT DOWN FOR YOU

BEFORE YOUR EQUINE PHOTOSHOOT

Yayy you’ve booked! Every small business does a little dance when they receive custom. Once you have booked you will receive a welcome email with everything you need to know about your equine photography experience. This includes conformation of the date and time, when payment is due and things to think about before your shoot. The main three things you need to consider are the location, outfits and style you are looking for.

LOCATION

We don’t need to travel far to be able to get beautiful photos, you’d be surprised at what you can achieve around your everyday stables. So, when you’re completing your horse’s daily routine have a look around the yard and fields, can you imagine photos here? Not sure? Then just ask! I will be able to advise whether your location will help us make the most out of your photoshoot, (you can even send me photos of the location). If not, we can find suitable alternative locations (bear in mind you made need transport or to walk your horse on roads). Below is an example photo sent by a client and the photo taken at the location.

OUTFIT

Secondly you need to work out what to wear. You can go causal or formal, and have multiple outfits however consider how comfortable you will be and the practicality of being with your horse. Don’t forget the weather too! You should also think about how your horse will look, even though they don’t have an outfit a groom is a must and you may even want to bath them. Don’t forget to make sure any tack is gleaming too!

THE VIBE

Finally, you may want to consider the look you prefer in equine photography. This will help you decide on your location and outfits. Have a look through my previous photoshoots and see if a photo catches your eye, do you prefer the more natural looking photos with owners in casual clothing, or something a bit more dressed up and pull out the Fairfax & Favor boots! All these small thoughts will help me create your perfect photos that you will simply love!

And don’t forget to be prepared to re-schedule! No one wants wet soggy photos and it certainly does no good for my camera! I will always keep a close eye on the weather and if rain is in the forecast, I will do my best to give as much notice, however we all know the British weather and sometimes I have to make the decision on the day to postpone.

P.S make sure all your outfits are bagged and ready to go the day before your photoshoot, this will avoid any last-minute stress and ensure you enjoy your equine photoshoot.

ON THE DAY OF YOUR EQUINE PHOTOSHOOT

If you’ve done all of the above then the shoot will be a breeze. We’ll have discussed the types of photos you want and what to start with on your shoot. Please make sure you are ready for the agreed time, I will generally arrive early to scout out the location (if I haven’t already). Bring a pair of hands, a friend or willing husband will make outfit changes and getting the horses attention so much easier. And then I just get snapping, we’ll wander around your location, pausing as we go, changing poses and outfits, and just having a natter as we do. We’ll have the odd laugh when your horse doesn’t quite do as they’re told (the bloopers are the best!) If you want any ridden shots we will do these at the end to avoid tack marks. And that’s it! Nothing to worry about, no audience, just you, me and your horse.

AFTERWARDS

After your shoot I’ll sort through your images and select the best for editing. I will do a preview photo on social media within 3 days to give you something to calm the excitement! I will then continue the edits which take a minimum of 2 weeks. Once ready I will send you an online link where you can view the photos and download them. You can then pick one to have as your print which is included in your photoshoot and you can also order more prints, products if you wish. Prints and products can take 4 weeks and I can deliver these in person or post. And that’s it you have beautiful memorable photos of you and your horse for life!
